In my experience, it is poor/ ambiguous/ lack of/ untimely communication which remains the single biggest reason why organizations of all shape/ size/ orientation/ industry affiliation become semi or fully dysfunctional….or instead (at the other end of the scale) become magnificent.

Without question, students must develop outstanding communication skills – oral and written – to only then enjoy positive functional relationships (both in a work context and in other areas of their lives)…and a good amount of success in their lives. I am particularly concerned about young peoples’ inability (or unwillingness) to hold a verbal conversation these days. We need to be mindful of the essential need to foster close relationships with others through verbal conversations. There is a chapter in my first book on this topic.

Leaders simply cannot lead unless they have well developed communication skills. In the Foreword of my second book (which concentrates on building and managing successful franchise operations) that I have just finished writing I purposely deliver the blunt message that unless a Franchisor, directors or the appointed senior CEO/ GM are natural and strong communicators then it isn’t advisable that they venture down the Franchise route.

If you don’t know…then ask.

If you know…then share.

If you have an opinion…then be forthcoming in sharing it.

If you are a leader…then be the most exceptional communicator you know.
